The Foundation celebrates the Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Dog Year

In China, and throughout the rest of the world, preparations are underway for the start of the new year, which will open this year on February 16 under the sign of the Dog (狗). The Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival (because it introduces to the arrival of the season) or Lunar New Year, is a traditional festival in China, celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar: it usually falls between the second and the third novilunio immediately after the winter solstice (between January 21st and February 20th).

Initiatives - To celebrate the year of the Dog, the Italy-China Foundation and the Italian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce have organized a cocktail for their members. The event was attended by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Milan, Song Xuefeng, the Commercial Consul, Li Shaofeng, and Zhang Gang, General Manager of CCPIT (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade). With them, 150 Foundation and Chamber members. To do the honors of Margherita Barberis, Director General of the Foundation, and Pierluigi Streparava, President of the Chamber of Commerce. During the evening, which was sponsored by the Hotel Tocq and by Moutai Italia, the animated documentary "Chinamen" by Cjai Rocchi and Matteo Damonte was shown.
On Monday 19 February, the Permanent Training School organizes a dinner at the Uva Garden Restaurant to celebrate the arrival of the Dog with his Italian and Chinese students.

Celebrations -
The Chinese New Year celebrations last on average two weeks and are mainly family: relatives meet up in the houses to participate in rich banquets, where the main dishes are chicken and fish based propitiatory dishes but also traditional ravioli which recalls that of the ancient gold bars. On these occasions we exchange gifts contained in the traditional red envelopes, the so-called hongbao. Celebrations - based on fireworks and dances - are held throughout China but also in the Chinatowns scattered around the world. To close the festivities is the lantern festival, celebrated with a parade of children parading carrying colored lights.

The sign of the Dog - As the name suggests, the people of this sign are very loyal and happy to help others, you can always rely on them. They are very sensitive and suffer from injustice. Among their qualities are intelligence, honesty and commitment to do their job, but they are also difficult. Ideal professions for the people of this sign are the writer, the politician, the investigator, the teacher, the actor and the director. Usually their morality is very high and the sense of duty distinguishes them in numerous situations. Because of their introverted character, those who do not know them can consider them selfish, but in reality it is not at all so because the dog is always ready to protect the weaker. Endowed with a not indifferent intelligence, they know how to be ironic, precise and sometimes demanding.
