IDI, the Seventh Edition of Italian Design Icons ended in Shanghai


The seventh edition of IDI - Italian Design Icons ended in Shanghai on November 27th attracting more than a thousand visitors to the exclusive Powerlong Art Center art gallery.
The event, born from an idea of ​​DP Group and organized by Eastant Communication & Events, like every year, took up the theme of the annual initiative of the Italian Design Day in the World "Re-Generation: Design and New Technologies for a Better and Sustainable Future”, an event launched by the Italian government, promoted and organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the contribution of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture as part of the beIT and Vivere all'Italiana initiatives.
The purpose of the event is to create a showcase for Made in Italy companies present in China with the aim of providing the Chinese and international public with an immersive experience in Italian design.
A successful edition in which sixteen large companies of Italian excellence, belonging to different industrial sectors, from automotive to fashion, from robotics to architecture, exhibited the products and projects that best interpret their commitment to environmental sustainability through technological innovation and increasingly intelligent design choices.
In particular, Ariston exhibited a wall boiler with an intelligent cloud control system; Comau, world leader in industrial automation presented the new generation of Racer3 robots which integrates safety, design and aesthetics; Ducati exhibited three new models launched this year, Panigale V4 SP2, Streetfighter V2, XDiavel Nera Limited Edition and finally Ducati Scrambler 800 Daytona No.31 customized model, and celebrated the MotoGP victory during the event with an event dedicated to the history of Ducati models and design; FAAM brought the first Italian lithium-ion battery; Fincantieri exhibited the model of its Aida cruise ship; Goglio, one of this year's new entries, has proposed eco-sustainable packaging for different types of food products; Icona exhibited an ecosystem made up of a hydrogen-powered electric bicycle; iGuzzini lighting illuminated one of the gallery rooms; Marposs presented its innovative Blù Application modular monitoring system; two Maseratis welcomed the entrance to the gallery with the new Grecale model; Vespa of the Piaggio Group surprised us with the Vespa Sprint S TFT 150; Pirelli has chosen IDI to celebrate the 150-year history of passion and innovation in the tire sector; RadiciGroup demonstrated how the integration and control of the polyamide supply chain can make an important contribution to environmental sustainability; Tecnica Group snow boots and skis introduced us to the winter and outdoor sports season; renowned for their innovative features, UFI's products and technical expertise are present everywhere, from F1 with Ferrari and other major teams, to the European spacecraft ExoMars; finally, the Virtuarch architecture studio brought the models of two projects that interpreted the theme of re-generation.
From November 25th to 27th, a rich audience of more than 50 important international guests gathered during the three days of seminars, workshops and presentations to share their experience and perspective on how design and new technologies are supporting companies in the achieve a positive impact on the environment.

During the main day on Saturday, the Icons of Made in Italy presented their vision of the theme of re-generation through design and new technologies, having the opportunity to explore these issues also in the subsequent press conference with journalists from local media and international.
Gaetano Cantalupo, Global Head of Customer Operation and Head of Countries Cluster Comau APAC, explained how Comau, like all the brands that participated this year at IDI, fully grasps the theme "Design and New Technologies" by exhibiting Racer-3, “a Robot that combines aesthetic innovation with a high level of result-oriented design and performance. The first of a new generation of industrial robots, Racer3 is the concrete result of the Research and Development that has led Comau to become a world leader in robotics, also thanks to a continuous dedication to innovation".
Subsequently, during the award ceremony, the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Tiziana D'Angelo, recognized the award as "The Most Influential Speaker" to the internationally renowned Italian designer and architect Aldo Cibic, who stated that “The three days of IDI gave me the opportunity to discover in China, with genuine surprise, in addition to the great admiration I feel for renowned brands such as Ducati and Maserati, a behind-the-scenes look at the excellence of Italian design and manufacturing, which the world recognized for their originality and flexibility, and that they are in fact a fundamental asset of our economy".
Instead, the award for “The Most Trending Brand” of this edition of IDI went to UFI Filters – Sofima, represented by Simone Trazzi, APAC Chief Operation Officer, who expressed: “We are proud of this recognition which rewards the work of our company in the design and production of innovative filtration and thermal management products dedicated to New Electric Vehicles and we thank IDI for the wonderful initiative".
Great satisfaction for the success of IDI, quoting the words of Enea Colombo, Global General Manager of Icona: “The success of IDI this year was no coincidence. Icon is one of the world's leading players in design and innovation, and we are very pleased with the results of the event, thanks to the commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and effort of the Eastant organizational team".
The event also received important support from the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, ICE - Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China and the Italy China Council Foundation.
