Update on the Working Groups: how to participate

Work Group Activities (WG) initiated by Fondazione Italia Cina and Italian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce in 2018 continue to share ideas, projects, problems and know-how at the service of Members and, at the same time, to provide proposals at Country System level for the development of Italy-China relations.

To date, the following WGs have been launched: Digital, Chinese Investments, Italian Lifestyle / Made in Italy, Mechanics, Healthcare, Service Providers and Tourism.

To encourage continued participation in the Working Groups, we share the following guidelines for each group that has been launched.

To participate in the Work Groups it is necessary to send an email to info@italychinaworkinggroup.com specifying which group you intend to join.

  Chinese Investments
After the meetings held on 31 May and 11 December last, the Chinese Investment Bill outlined some issues of interest to the participants:

  • Lack of complete and official data;
  • Strategic importance of sharing information and promoting the Country System;
  • Identification of reliable tools to stimulate and direct potential investments.
Among the upcoming actions of the WG, we underline the proposal for coordination with the institutional realities of Italy and China and the push to identify strategic sectors and projects to develop M&A and investment activities in Italy.

The Chinese Investment WG is coordinated by Mr. Jin Yangkun (Director of the Italy China Foundation and General Manager of ICBC Europe S.A.) and Alessandro Paoli (Director of the Italian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Head of Unicredit International Center Italy).

Italian Lifestyle / Made in Italy

Since the first meeting on May 14, the WG has identified two main areas of interest:
  • Participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai
  • Development of vertical projects / initiatives (in particular connected to logistics, traceability and digital innovation)
Given the interest in participating in the CIIE, the WG met on two occasions to deepen participation in the event by verifying the possibility of providing services to Italian exhibitors by members of the Italian Lifestyle / Made in Italy Working Group.

Moreover, the Gdl organized an institutional meeting with the next Consul General of the Italian Republic in Shanghai, Michele Cecchi, who proved to be available to support the business promotion activities also in view of the Italian presence in the whole of CIIE.

The GdL Italian Lifestyle / Made in Italy is coordinated by Antonio Intiglietta (Vice President of the Italian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and President of Ge.Fi. Spa) and by Fabrizio Spremberg (Director of the Italy-China Foundation and Managing Director of Spremberg Srl).

Mechanics

Following the first meeting of the Mechanical Work Group on May 30th, the following topics were discussed:
  • Availability to receive information / requests / proposals from companies to which the WG may possibly provide feedback;
  • Identification of channels and opportunities for bilateral relations development also through testimonies / "best practices"
  • Deepening of regulatory issues and market contexts regarding the reference sector
The GdL Meccanica is coordinated by Claudio Rotti (Director of the Italy-China Foundation and Director of Confcommercio) and of Dr. Alberto Nicolai (Director of the Italian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Head of Marketing Department of UCIMU).

Healthcare

Following the first meeting of the Health Work Group on 1 June, a value proposition was drawn up describing the objectives of the initiative and the related deliverables.

The Health WG aims to:
  • Deepen the opportunities that the Chinese Life Science market offers;
  • Promote the exchange of best practices and the birth of new collaborations;
  • Collect themes and indications to be shared with Italian and Chinese stakeholders.
The sectors involved in the initiative will be mainly pharmaceutical, healthcare and services (insurance, medical tourism, etc.). Examining fundamental themes subject to recent reforms such as market access (and the various Provinces), sales and distribution methods and joint ventures, the Working Group proposes to:
  • Provide an updated regulatory framework regarding the market access situation;
  • Identify cases of success useful for understanding the evolution of the business scenario
  • Put together a system of relationships useful for approaching the country.
The Health WG is coordinated by Diana Bracco (Executive Vice President of the Italy China Foundation and President of the Bracco Group) and by Ugo Calò (Partner of the law firm DLA Piper).

Tourism

After the two meetings of June 20th and December 17th last, the Tourism Working Group agreed on the priorities expressed by the participants:
  • Present the demands of Chinese tourism development in Italy to the competent institutions
  • Develop business and create synergies between the participants in the WG
The following topics were discussed:
  • Situations that impact Chinese tourism in the travel organization phase (for example: entry visas, air routes, etc.)
  • Situations that impact Chinese tourism during the trip (for example: certification of tourist guides, health care, digital, etc.)
The next meetings will aim to deepen these issues, proposing solutions and, where possible, involving facilitators. The results could be presented during the key events for the sector.

The GdL Tourism is coordinated by Airaldo Piva (Managing Director of Hengdian Group Europe) and by Giuliana Zagarella (Partner of Digital to Asia).

Digital

The Digital WG met last July 16th and February 18th at our headquarters in Palazzo Clerici. Under the coordination of Guido Ghedin (Head of Global Development Cifnews) and Francesca Quaratino (CEO of Manafactory srl), the guidelines and possible operational developments of the WG were summarized in the downloadable document in this link.

Service Providers

The Service Providers WG met for the first time on 9 July at the NCTM offices in Milan. The coordinators are from Avv. Enrico Toti (Of Counsel Law Firm NCTM) and of Dr. Riccardo Fuochi (President of OM LOG srl).
